Welcome to Lethbridge / Merry Christmas

Oh boy, it’s been a while since my last blog. Two weeks isn’t actually a long time but a lot has happened since then:

  1. After my last post, we moved a lot of things. I signed a lease, got some furniture from family (thankfully!), and settled into my new place. Everyday I fall more in love with Costco and Walmart for having literally almost everything I need.
  2. Living on my own thus far has been amazing. I love having my own space, and I’ll love it even more when I get internet (coming this week!). Thank god for the recent promotions by Bell, Rogers, and Telus to get me more data so I don’t struggle with being disconnected.
  3. I started work and it is going well! Finished a full week, made it on-air twice (Blood Donation and Skating) and have started getting into the groove of the newsroom and the routine.
  4. Getting to know my way around Lethbridge a little more and the day to day that goes on. I have to say, it’s a quaint city and it’s actually really nice. When most people hear “Lethbridge” they automatically think “mehhhh” but really, you have to see it to understand. It’s a good place. It’s not a big city nor does it pretend to be, but it’s a city nonetheless and it functions as a city should.
  5. Weather. I hate snow, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Chinook winds change the game from all the snow that came lately. When I first got here, it was nothing but glorious sunshine, and now the roads are a little less easy to drive on. Nothing crazy from what I’m used to, but I hate winter. That will never change about me.

There is one interesting observation I’ve made. Every time I meet someone and tell them I’m from Toronto, they either react with surprise on a big change, or they put themselves down almost apologetically for not being a bigger city. The first reaction makes more sense to me, because it’s obviously different. The second makes me feel a little uncomfortable because it’s almost as if Toronto has this reputation for being a little arrogant. One person even said “Really, here? You sure you want to be here?” when I said I moved for work.

I want the residents of Lethbridge to know there is nothing wrong with their city. It’s a good place to be, and despite the size, it can be comfortable. You only get out what you put in, and I intend to familiarize myself more with the community. Not because I’m working with the news, but because as a Canadian, I know my country has a lot to offer and I want to call every inch of Canadian soil home.

I’ll be posting more pictures as I can on Instagram and will be tweeting more and more so you can follow what I’m up to and what’s going on. I’ll eventually get to vlogs, it’s just taking some time.

As for the holidays, I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanza, whatever else it is you celebrate with you and yours at this time of the year. If you are fortunate enough to be with loved ones and spend good quality time, take advantage of it. Make sure your loved ones know how much they mean to you. Don’t stress over the little things. Be cosy, be warm, and enjoy!
