Going To The Game: A Review

Watching the game on TV vs going to the game are definitely not the same experiences, especially pre-pandemic.

Now that we’re allowed to go back to games and events, I cherish those moments even more. I haven’t been to a live sporting event since March 2020, and I didn’t know how much I missed going until I got there.

It’s such an electrifying atmosphere (unless the team sucks and the fans are enthusiastically passionless), and so engaging when the action is right in front of your eyes.

Of course, it’s still not quite the same as pre-pandemic times, but I’m confident we’ll get to that point again soon enough.

If you’re on the fence about going to a live event, then let me give you a review of how I found it to be and what you should expect.

PROOF OF VACCINATION

The first thing you agree to when buying tickets is to follow health protocols. Ushers checked for ID and vaccination proof. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it requires being double vaxxed. Without it, you’re not going to get in. I didn’t see anyone making a fuss, which made it a smooth process to get into the arena.

SECURITY CHECKS

Same as always. Empty your pockets, walk through a metal detector and take your stuff back.

MASKS

There is a mask policy in effect but I found it to be loosely enforced or monitored. That said, people were pretty good about wearing one on their own in crowded spaces or at their seats when not eating or drinking. At times, I caught myself leaving it off after taking a sip of water or eating popcorn.

Hallways during the intermission get crowded and most people were really good about masking up.

All in all, if you’re hesitant and worried about it then don’t go. But, you should be relatively fine if you follow the procedures, keep your distance where (if, really) possible, and take comfort in knowing everyone is as protected as they can be. It’s not a foolproof method, but it helps.

Lastly, enjoy the game!
